Dr Michael Falzon, election manager of the Malta Labour Party, wrote (July 18) that the late Archbishop Sir Michael Gonzi in the sixties made it a mortal sin to vote Labour.
Maybe Mgr Gonzi was a little prophetic at the time, since it certainly is a "mortal sin" to vote Labour today. Labour today has a leader who has a habit of swerving from one side to the other for no apparent reason, and a leader who calls anyone and everyone names just because they do not agree with him.
The Labour Party today projects no direction or, at the very best, a confused direction. In short, we have an opposition in parliament that is no opposition. A serious opposition is certainly vital for a country to make progress. Unfortunately, our present opposition is a divided opposition and therefore the party in power is omnipotent - this is not a healthy situation and the whole country is suffering from it.
