German prosecutors urged judges yesterday to give a suspended prison sentence to Robert Hoyzer, the referee at the centre of Germany's match-fixing scandal, and to send his gambling accomplice to jail.
Hoyzer and four fellow accused in a two million euro betting fraud will learn their fate tomorrow, when the five-judge panel are due to give their verdicts.
Prosecutors want Hoyzer, who has admitted fixing or trying to fix nine matches, to receive a two-year suspended sentence for his part in a scandal that rocked German football.
