Members of the Peace Lab, accompanied by its director, Fr Dionysius Mintoff, yesterday staged a protest at Safi Barracks where 75 illegal immigrants are in detention.

The members go regularly to the barracks to give the immigrants milk. However, when it was time to leave they refused in protest against the immigrants' long detention. During the day senior police and army officials attempted to negotiate with them to stop the protest but these stayed there up to about 9.15 p.m.

Most of these immigrants have been detained at Safi for over 470 days. Some immigrants being kept at Hal Far are still on hunger strike.
