I refer to the letter Psychic Warden (June 10) regarding a warden booking a car with a damaged rear lighting assembly. The warden is in fact quite correct and did not have to see whether the stop light was working.
From the letter it appears that the plastic cover was missing therefore showing a white light at the rear and not a red one. So it would be a waste of time and money to argue the case.
In England there is what is called a vehicle defect rectification scheme where, at the wardens' discretion, they can issue a ticket to the driver to get the defect fixed within 14 days and to have the ticket stamped by a VRT testing station saying the defect has been rectified. The driver then takes the ticket to the police station to prove the job done so saving a fine for the driver.
In this way the law is complied with in what I deem to be a fair way.
