Public call issued for the appointment of two judges, two magistrates

The appointments will be made by the president from a shortlist by the Judicial Appointments Committee

A public call was issued by the justice ministry on Tuesday for the appointment of two judges and two magistrates.

Eligible applicants will be assessed by the Judicial Appointments Committee. The President will then appoint the judges and magistrates from a shortlist of candidates recommended by the committee.

The ministry said the public call is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary, reaffirming the government’s commitment to a more efficient and specialised justice system. It follows the appointment of two magistrates in May.

Judges Toni Abela and Anna Felice retired recently, and judges Grazio Mercieca, Giannino Caruana Demajo and Chief Justice Mark Chetcuti are set to retire within a few months.

Interested individuals may submit their application by Tuesday, 26 August 2025 at 12:00pm, addressed to the Secretary of the Judicial Appointments Committee.
