The number of people employed in the public sector went up by 1,469 between April 2017 and April 2018, according to figures released by the National Statistics Office on Thursday.

In April 2018, registered full-time employment increased by 6.5 per cent while part-time employment as a primary job increased by 2.3 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2017.

Data provided by JobsPlus show that the labour supply (excluding part-timers) increased by 6.1 per cent, reaching 203,633. This was mainly attributed to a year-on-year increase in the full-time gainfully occupied population (12,352) and a decline in registered unemployment (730).

• The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 942 when compared to April 2017, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 11,410.

• Full-time employment for males and females went up by 5.2 per cent and 8.7 per cent respectively over 2017 levels.

• Registered part-time employment in April 2018 went up by 5.0 per cent when compared to a year earlier.

• The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 26,759 up by 8.8 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2017. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 35,118, up by 2.3 per cent when compared to 2017
