Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando has declared his opposition to Mepa taking any decision on the Delimara power station extension until the project is discussed in Parliament.
The Mepa board is currently meeting to consider an application to issue an Outline Development Permit.
Dr Pullicino Orlando, writing in The Times, said the Nationalist Parliamentary Group has declared that it would be discussing the power station extension proposal once the Auditor General concluded his investigations into the contract.
"I feel that Mepa should not take any decisions related to the application for the construction of the new plant until the project is discussed in Parliament.
It would be premature and incorrect if it did so. I know for a fact that a number of my parliamentary colleagues feel the same," Dr Pullicino Orlando said.
Dr Pullicino Orlando agreed with the government that it would be premature and incorrect to hold a discussion in Parliament before the Auditor presented his report.
Parliament, however, yesterday held an emergency debate on the issues of the Delimara project facing Mepa.
