Punishment to fit the crime
In one of the states of America a person was found guilty of seven murders and was sentenced to life imprisonment for seven times. In Malta a double murderer got 30 years' imprisonment and with remission for good conduct this would be reduced to 20 years.
In one of the states of America a person was found guilty of seven murders and was sentenced to life imprisonment for seven times.
In Malta a double murderer got 30 years' imprisonment and with remission for good conduct this would be reduced to 20 years. This means about ten years for each murder.
I was under the impression that life imprisonment was the maximum term permissible at law for one murder. Naturally for double murder one expects the sentence to be doubled.
So going for the next permissible sentence after life imprisonment, one expected the sentence to be 60 years.
One must keep in mind that two healthy elderly persons who had yet more years to live were brutally murdered for a small sum of money.
