A Romanian man was yesterday given a one-month jail term suspended for a year after he admitted to stealing the purses of two women from a Sliema supermarket.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard 44-year-old Vasile Dumitrescu plead guilty to stealing the purses of Antida Church and Mary Stella Azzopardi from Tower Supermarket on Monday.

Police Inspector Stephen Gatt prosecuted.
