Since 2011, willingly or not, the big political parties have been in tacit agreement in putting an end to the Catholic Church’s monopoly when it comes to our common values. If plurality is here to stay, then it is high time to say goodbye to what supposedly contributed to the Nationalist Party’s identity.

Humility is a value this political party needs to practise. In my opinion, the PN has, since 2011, put its identity at stake for political expediency.

Malta has to rely on people who can be trusted in delivering on what they say. Will the PN in its present shape and set-up and/or its members in Parliament remain adamant that human life will be protected in all its forms, at whatever stage it is at, whatever is on the agenda of either political party at any given time?

Can this or any political party at this point hope to gain political points by flagging the values of the Roman Catholic Church as if it were representing in Parliament a single confession of faith? I wonder.

Can the way forward for the PN be virtù (virtue) instead of religio (religion)? It is more representative of what the good human beings are able to seek for themselves and others like them. Let them truly seek virtue and practise what they seek as this carries extra credit and an extra onus to politicians who try to serve and the electorate who needs their precious service.
