A number of Year Six pupils attending Qala Primary School recently visited the island of Salina, Italy, following a twinning agreement between Qala council and the three communes of Salina.
Accompanied by mayor Paul Buttigieg and Lelio Spiteri, a teacher at the school, the group was welcomed by the mayors of Santa Marina Salina, Leni and Malfa.
During their visit the students visited the island of Panarea, the smallest of the Aeolian islands, as well as the island volcano of Stromboli. Other excursions included those to Vulcano with its famous baths, Lipari Castle and the Aeolian Archaelogical Museum.
The group also had the oppotunity to visit Pollara where the Oscar-winning film II Postino was shot, to climb the Fosse delle Felci and enjoy a panoramic view of Alicudi and Filcudi, Salina's sister islands.
The group was welcomed by teachers and pupils of the Comprehensive Institute of Salina, where the children were able to meet the pupils.
