Johann Scicluna has been named as first-team coach of Qormi FC, the BOV Premier League club announced today.

Scicluna, who spent 15 years playing for Qormi, joined the club's technical staff in the close season and served as assistant to Jesmond Zerafa until the latter stepped down last week.

The young coach, who had a successful three-year spell at the helm of the Birkirkara women's team, has signed a three-year contract.

Jesmond Aquilina, the new president of Qormi, described Scicluna as the ideal person to coach the team during this difficult time for the club not only because of his coaching abilities but also because he has Qormi FC at heart.

After taking charge of the team on a caretaker basis for last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Hibernians, Scicluna will make his debut as Qormi coach in tomorrow's league game against Valletta.
