Qrendi property granted temporary concession to Lourdes Philharmonic Society

The temporary emphyteusis is for 50 years and will allow the society to store feast decorations

A public property in Qrendi has been transferred under a temporary emphyteusis for 50 years to the Soċjeta' Filarmonika  Madonna ta' Lourdes of Qrendi to be used as storage for equipment related to the locality's feast.

The site is located at the corner of Nazzareno Mifsud Street and Guzeppi D'Arena Street. The transfer was between the society and the Lands Authority, which is responsible for the Qrendi property.

The transfer was announced by the Culture Minister, Owen Bonnici, on Wednesday. Bonnici said through the transfer, the Soċjeta' Filarmonika  Madonna ta' Lourdes would be able to strengthen its voluntary work and benefit from the adequate space to store feast-related material.

The minister said the project marked another significant step among different initiatives aimed at safeguarding the traditions that make Malta unique. He added how the transfer also forms part of ongoing efforts to support Maltese festas, which have now been recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Lands Authority chief executive Robert Vella and Gordon Sacco, in his capacity as secretary of the society, signed the deed.
