I refer to the article ‘Unesco raises alarm over quarry activity near temples’, (The Sunday Times of Malta, September 2).
Enforcement officers from the Planning Authority have inspected the quarry at Siġġiewi and found no evidence of any ongoing or recent excavations. Core sampling had been undertaken prior to mid-July.
There is no equipment related to excavations on site. Officers had previously inspected the site on August 10, and there is no evidence of any excavations activity since.
Editorial note: The photograph that was published in The Sunday Times of Malta with the article in question on September 2 clearly shows that fresh rock excavation and core testing had been carried out at the Tal-Magħluq quarry in Siġġiewi.
