One of the quarries that will be rehabilitated within the coming weeks is large enough to take all the waste currently being dumped at Maghtab for at least three years, a spokesman for the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry said yesterday.

A third of the construction waste generated annually is already being dumped into rehabilitated quarries - 400,000 tonnes last year out of the 1.2 million tonnes generated.

However, while Maghtab is being used for other types of waste, at least 400,000 tonnes a year of construction waste needs to be dumped there to stabilise and cover the other types of waste.
