Nationalist MP Edwin Vassallo asked Finance Minister Tonio Fenech if he could investigate why the Super 5 jackpot had again risen to a phenomenal sum of money, just like last year. He said there seemed to be a pattern of how and when the jackpot rose to such limits.

Answering, Minister Fenech said the Malta Gaming and Lotteries Authority always saw to it that every form of gaming it licensed was carried out in the fairest possible manner, and that the interests of participants were safeguarded.

In the case of Super 5, he added, draws were invariably carried out in the presence of a number of people, including a representative of the authority.
