The Assoccjazzjoni tal-Hwienet ta' Wied il-Ghajn said that Marsascala was forgotten in the route of the "Tourist Malta Bus" launched recently by the Malta Tourism Authority and the Malta Transport Authority.
It pointed out that a proposed tourist bus route runs through almost every locality in the south of the island but literally bypasses Marsascala.
The route runs through Marsa, Fgura, Cospicua, Kalkara, Zabbar, Bulebel, Marsaxlokk, Kirkop, Zurrieq and Hagar Qim, ignoring Marsascala, which is considered as a tourism main area by the MTA, with shop owners paying contributions accordingly, the association said.
In Marsascala there are around 120 businesses, 80 of which are in the entertainment industry.
Similar to other localities in Malta, tourism is crucial for most of these establishments but, the association added, due to various reasons, Marsascala was not attracting the level of tourism it merited.
The association is requesting a revision of the route.
