The Malta Tourism Authority`s human resources and support services directorate has published the first volume of a set of career guides of what is being called the "Your Future" series which gives detailed information about careers within the various sectors of the tourism industry.

The first volume deals with hospitality and catering. The guide is aimed at students who are in the process of deciding on their choice of career. It also guides students as to what qualifications they should acquire in order to join the tourism industry.

The booklet covers 23 careers at various levels of responsibility.

The publication of the first volume of the career guides follows the launch last November of a week-long programme in schools organised by the MTA called "Choice".

This programme is aimed at raising awareness in secondary schools of the tourism industry and to inform students about the various careers that exist within the industry.

By the end of this academic year the directorate will have visited 15 schools and targeted around 1,500 fourth and fifth form students.

This programme will be developed further next year to allow more schools to participate.

Copies of the first volume of the Careers Guide will be sent to each Guidance Unit and library in Malta and Gozo.

Those interested in obtaining copies of this booklet or more information about the school awareness programme "Choice" may call the MTA`s Human Resources and Support Services Directorate on tel. 22915401/6/7.
