Rabat awash with colour as town celebrates St Paul

Town marks titular feast of its patron saint

Rabat was awash with colour as the town celebrated the titular feast of its patron saint St Paul on Sunday.

Participants who braved the summer heat to take part in the event were rewarded with music, chants, streamers and smoke.

Times of Malta photographer Jonathan Borg captured some of the festive atmosphere.

Sunday’s feast day began at 8.30am with a mass led by Rev. Fr Joseph Fsadni. Events will continue until the evening, with a procession of the titular statue of St Paul scheduled to begin at 7.15pm.

The statue is made of wood and was completed by Giovanni Caruana in 1774, around 90 years after the town’s present-day parish church was completed.

The church was made a minor basilica in 2020.
