Rabat mayor Francis Fabri has resigned following his appointment at principal at a state college, council secretary Franco M. Azzopardi said. He has also resigned his seat as councilor.

The secretary said the mayor's resignation became necessary because his new duties were incompatible with his council role.

Mr Azzopardi praised the outgoing mayor for his work and for having left the council in a sound financial position.
