The Malta Canoe Union recently held a series of short course races at Sliema Creek. The 200m and 500m sprints were open to the Olympic type Espada Class and Stage One racing kayaks.

Due to a slight current flow present, results were based on an upcurrent (heat 1) and downcurrent (heat 2) aggregate. There were little surprises in the longer race but the 200m events provided a better fare.

Gerald Degaetano dominated both distances with Peter Zammit and Craig Wightman following home in the 500m race. In the 200m event, Wightman was second rower in behind Degaetano with Zammit a close third.

William Dimech swept the board in the 500m Stage One race followed by newcomer Sandro Zahra and John Polacco. Donna Panzavecchia was first lady canoeing home.

The Stage One 200m race saw Zahra first with Polacco second and Panzavecchia matching Polacco's time on the upcurrent leg.
