Shakespeare's King Lear will be given a radical interpretation using drama, dance and music when it is performed next month at the Manoel Theatre.
TNT Theatre Britain and the American Drama Group Europe will certainly present no ordinary King Lear, which is perhaps the most dramatic and profound of Shakespeare's tragedies.
Director Paul Stebbings and his experienced team will go for the heart of the play: the focus will be on the two families of Lear and Gloucester.
Minor characters and incidents will be stripped away to reveal the core drama. Music will be woven through the production and drama will be used to explore the powerful human and natural energy released by the play. The result will be a production that will aim at clarity of narrative as well as ideas.
Performances will be staged from November 3 to 5. Reservations for the TNT production of King Lear may be made at the Manoel Theatre booking office on 2124 6389.
