Tarxien Rainbows have all but assured their place in this season’s Championship Pool when they edged Vittoriosa Stars 1-0 at the Hibs Stadium this afternoon.

It was a fair outcome to a match which saw the Rainbows hold much of the possession but they were denied time and again by the excellent Vittoriosa Stars goalkeeper Simon Agius who produced a string of fine saves throughout the match.

However, the former Floriana and Sliema goalkeeper was finally beaten 11 minutes from time when from a Mark Tanti corner kick, the ball fell into the path of Perreira who curled the ball into the top corner much to the relief of the Rainbows fans.

By virtue of today’s victory, Tarxien have now moved to second place on the 23-point mark, three points clear of champions Birkirkara and seven behind run-away leaders Valletta.

Agius was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
