Tarxien Rainbows 4
Sirens 1
\nTarxien Rainbows beat Division Three side Sirens last weekend to chalk up a 2002/03 double after winning the championship and promotion to Division One next season. Rainbows' striker Simon Shead notched a brace to take his season's tally to an impressive 31 goals.
Tarxien were out in search of goals right from the word go. Shead twice had the chance to break the deadlock but after seven minutes they surged in front when Ludvic Bartolo hit home from a Massimo Schembri free-kick.
Sirens took their time to settle but once they did they launched a strong reaction with Clifford Agius, Stefan Micallef and Richard Agius all trying hard to score an equaliser.
A Bartolo drive was saved by Sirens' goalie Lia and in first half added time Tarxien struck again. Mangion sent in a perfect centre from the flag-kick and Shead was on the right spot to make it 2-0.
The game was not over though as two minutes into the second period, Sirens reduced the arrears through Gordon Chetcuti.
However, Tarxien soon restored their two-goal lead thanks to Shead who found Lia's net after a fine solo move.
Sirens were leaving some open spaces at the back now. Shead and Joe Agius were close to score again for Tarxien. Ten minutes from time Igor Stefanovic's free-kick hit the bar but immediately afterwards the Tarxien captain was rewarded for his efforts when thumping home his side's fourth from a Guazzo cross.
Malta FA vice-president Carmelo Bartolo presented Stefanovic with the cup after the match.

Division II - Promotion Decider
San Gwann 2
Vittoriosa Stars 1
San Gwann will join Tarxien Rainbows in Division One next season, replacing Gozo and Xghajra Tornadoes, after this extra-time win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Centenary Stadium.
San Gwann had an encouraging start and took the lead after 11 minutes from an excellent Mark Psaila goal. Two minutes later Vittoriosa missed an easy chance through Lucian Scerri and in the 20th minute the Saints almost scored again but Alan Spiteri's shot was ably saved by Cini.
The Stars' goalie was once again the protagonist when he denied Psaila from a free-kick but gradually Vittoriosa assumed the initiative and managed to equalise after 36 minutes thanks to a Charles Cachia goal.
San Gwann dictated matters for long stretches after the break and could have snatched a late winner but Psaila incredibly shot high when all alone in front of goal.
In the 86th minute, San Gwann were reduced to ten players when Renato Caruana was sent off for a second booking. Vittoriosa tried one last attempt but the upright denied them from an important goal off a Cachia effort as the match dragged into extra-time.
Two minutes had elapsed when San Gwann regained the lead. Spiteri's perfect pass was picked up by Psaila who scrambled the ball home.
This proved to be the goal that mattered as the police had to intervene to calm the tension on the stands. There was no such trouble on the field of play though... referee Alan Mario Sant kept firm control of proceedings.
