Raising awareness about the importance of fostering
Music project inspired from the lived experiences of children who have endured abuse, trauma
Naf Min Jien! (I Know Who I Am) is a newly released music project penned by Dr Kevin Borg, FSWS’ Consultant Community Paediatrician. Written around two years ago, the song draws inspiration from the lived experiences of children who have endured abuse or trauma. Told through the eyes of these young individuals, it reflects the confusion, pain, and courage that arise when a child must leave their birth parents and enter alternative care.
Despite the difficult reality it portrays, Naf Min Jien! carries a powerful message of hope, that with care, stability, and love, even the most wounded story can heal and flourish.
This journey of resilience is made possible thanks to the dedication of caregivers who support these children daily. The song serves as a tribute to these caregivers, whether in foster care or residential homes, who provide stability and compassion through both the highs and lows. It also honours the many unseen and unheard professionals who work tirelessly to safeguard children’s rights and best interests, often silently carrying the emotional weight of these stories.
Currently, around 450 minors in Malta and Gozo are being raised in alternative care due to trauma or other forms of abuse.
The Foundation for Social Welfare Services encourages the public to watch and share the music video, helping raise awareness about the importance of fostering and the continued need for more foster carers to provide safe and loving environments for children in need.
