Members of the Ramblers’ Association called on Mepa to stop the works at the site belonging to former PN president Victor Scerri at Bahrija.

They told the media this afternoon that clay was being excavated from the site and dumped illegally at another site in the limits of Bahrija, known as Landrijiet.

Ramblers Association president Lino Bugeja said it was illegal to excavate clay and remove it from site.

He said that Mepa did not seem to know about the need for excavation because, in the original permit which was still valid, the difference in levels of the site was not indicated in the plans submitted by the architect.

Accompanied by secretary Alex Vella, Mr Bugeja took journalists to the site where workers had allegedly dumped the clay.

When asked what proof they had that this clay came from Dr Scerri’s site, the Ramblers insisted they had followed the trucks to the place.
