Part of Ramla Bay in Gozo was briefly evacuated early on Monday afternoon after a man digging in the sand reported finding a metal object buried there.

The police called in the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the armed forces to investigate.

The alarm was raised at about 2pm. The object turned out to be part of an oil tank and a concrete weight.
