In a bid to save the Maltese cow from extinction, a rare, indigenous ox and cow have been paired in a section of Ghammieri farm. The pair, which is the last remaining example of a species that is believed to go back to prehistory, belongs to Pawlu Saliba, a farmer from Zejtun.

Parliamentary secretary for agriculture Francis Agius and gynaecologist Mark Brincat yesterday oversaw the arrival of the pair at the farm, which has been recently upgraded to meet animal welfare standards.
