Re-arrested over drugs

A 53-year-old man just released from prison is back in trouble with the police over drugs.

He was arrested after the police drug squad found 20 grammes of heroin in a raid on his Gzira apartment yesterday at about 10 a.m.

The police said they had earlier received information that drug trafficking was taking place at the apartment.

Some of the heroin was found in 29 packets ready to be sold. The rest was still uncut, the police said.

The police also found a piece of cannabis resin and items related to drug abuse. The apartment is situated opposite the Gzira primary school. The police said the man, who left prison just four weeks ago, lives there with his family.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima is holding an inquiry. A team of court experts was appointed to draw up reports on the case.
