Recital in aid of humanitarian aid centre

Pianist Eric Azzopardi is giving a recital in aid of Centru Tbexbix at St James Cavalier, in Valletta on Thursday.

Centru Tbexbix (Sunrise Centre) is a project being undertaken by the women's section of Ananda Marga, a volunteer organisation specialising in humanitarian aid and teaching yoga and meditation.

The aim is to provide a centre of education, support and networking for women, adolescent girls and children of low income, urban families.

The activities at the centre, in Cospicua, will include a literacy programme, self-help courses for women and a morning day-care programme for children.

It will be located in a two-storey, 10-room house purchased cheaply by Ananda Marga four years ago, which is being renovated. The house had to undergo massive structural repairs and most of the work was done by volunteers.

The work has now been stepped up, with the hope that the centre would start functioning in 2004.

For the centre to be completed, an estimated sum of Lm5,000 is required.
