The Rector of the University, Professor Roger Ellul-Micallef, will be made a Doctor of Science tomorrow, when he receives an honorary degree from the University of Westminster.

Professor Ellul-Micallef (inset) will be awarded the degree at one of the University's presentation ceremonies due to take place at the Barbican Centre, London.

He will receive the award before graduates from Westminster Business School take to the stage to receive their degrees at the annual ceremony.

Professor Ellul-Micallef first joined the University of Malta in 1972 as a lecturer in clinical psychology. Following a distinguished career he was elected Rector in 1996, being re-elected for his second term in 2001.

A committed European, he served as chairman of the Council of Europe's Committee on Higher Education and Research from 1992 to 1995, having previously served as an executive committee member and vice-chairman. He is currently chairman of the European Access Network, a post to which he has been elected for three successive terms.

Professor Ellul-Micallef is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Physicians in London. In November 2002 he was awarded the rank of Grande Ufficiale al Merito della Repubblica Italiana by the President of the Italian Republic for services rendered to tertiary education.
