Recently I was referred to the Paola government clinic by my doctor for an X-ray but was told that on that day no such service was available and that X-rays are now only being done three days a week when, for the past 20 years, X-ray services were available six days a week.
So I am forced to take a day off work to have an X-ray during the week as on Saturdays the service is no longer available.
I enquired further and learned that the X-ray department at Paola health centre caters for more than 20 localities in the south of the island - almost half the Maltese population. No other health centre caters for such a large population.
Furthermore, no X-rays are done at the Cospicua clinic as there are referred to the Paola clinic. This will not help reduce the workload at Mater Dei Hospital. It is such a poor service to the Maltese living in the south of the island!
