Established long-distance Reebok Falcons runner, Peter Azzopardi, will be the first ever Maltese athlete to represent the country in the World Mountain Trophy, this year to be staged in Innsbruck, Austria, on Sunday.
The World Mountain Trophy is an endurance race, which sees runners going uphill for 1,331 metres over a distance of 11.7 kms.
As part of his preparations for the race, Azzopardi is currently undergoing a high altitude training camp in northern Italy. He has already run a mountain race in Laives Pietralba placing 12th in the over-30 category and an overall 24th out of 128 athletes.
Azzopardi is supported by the Malta Amateur Athletic Association and his main sponsors - Bank of Valletta and Reebok Falcons Club.
