A refugee who resides at the Hal Far open centre yesterday appeared in court under arrest for allegedly trespassing onto the airport's runway while carrying oranges and a knife on Saturday.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard Kasab Ali Ahmed, 34, from Palestine, explain that he used the knife to cut food. The runway is situated near the open centre. Mr Ahmed, who yesterday appeared unattended by a lawyer, remained under arrest when he pleaded not guilty to entering a restricted area at the airport, the possession of the knife without a licence and relapsing.
Police Inspector Sandro Zarb prosecuted.
