The Malta Amateurs team notched their first win in the Regions Cup after they beat hosts Primorska 2-1 in Slovenia yesterday.

J.J. Aquilina's team, who lost their opening match against Northern Ireland 4-0 on Monday, showed the better fare in the first half at the Izola Stadium but it was the Slovenians who took the lead through Drazen Buneta.

On the change of ends, Malta kept pressing forward and on 76 minutes Marlon Briffa equalised. The goal boosted the morale of the Maltese and three minutes later Ivan Zammit struck the winner with a low shot.

Malta Amateurs are third in the group, with three points, one behind joint-leaders Northern Ireland and Mid-Chesire of England. They face the English team in their final match tomorrow.
