The Malta Environment and Planning Authority reminded owners of unregistered stuffed protected birds they have to register the birds according to legal notices 41 and 56 of 2003 by the end of May.

The Mepa said that according to the new hunting and trapping regulations those who apply to register protected stuffed birds by May 31 would be issued with an official certificate by the director for environmental protection so that no action would be taken against them under the laws governing the protection of the environment.

Registration of the stuffed birds should be made on special forms which can be obtained from the offices of the Mepa, local councils and hunters and trappers' associations as from Monday.

The Mepa said those who had already registered their stuffed birds need not register them under the new regulations.
