A communion that unites

In his Angelus address, Pope Leo commented on the meaning of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. He said on these days, “the resurrection of the crucified Jesus from the dead sheds light on the destiny of each one of us.

“This is the mystery that we celebrated yesterday on the Solemnity of All Saints: a communion of differences that extends God’s life to all who wish to share in it. It is the desire written in the heart of every human being, a longing for recognition, attention and joy. Each time death seems definitively to take away a voice, a face or an entire world, interiorly we understand God’s concern that no one perish.

“As we say in the Creed: ‘I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come’. Let us commemorate, therefore, the future, for we are not enclosed in the past or in sentimental tears of nostalgia. Neither are we sealed within the present, as in a tomb.”

Abandon false paradigm

On the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a Church document on the relationship with non-Christian religions, Cardinal Cristóbal López Romero, SDB, archbishop of Rabat, Morocco, said “we must abandon the false paradigm of ‘true religion, false religion’. Religions have the responsibility to offer paths of meaning and truth, not of domination. No religion can appropriate the truth, as if it were its sole owner. No one possesses the truth; if anything, it is the truth that possesses us all, and in every religion there are glimmers of truth.”

Pope’s prayer intention

The pope’s November prayer intention is: “Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.”
