Well-known percussionist Renzo Spiteri will be presenting his solo tour work next week at St James Cavalier.
The work, titled Quintessence, is a unique experience that captivates audiences with sounds created through the use of sampling and live electronic manipulation, a large suspended metal sheet, a fishing line, vocal phrases and a sculptural array of acoustic percussion instruments.
Quintessence was premiered at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester as part of the Future Everything Festival 2015. It has since been performed in Germany and the Netherlands and will be presented in selected venues in the UK in Spring 2016.
It is part of the collaboration between Open Works Lab and The Valletta 2018 Foundation.
In a review last November, Frankfurter Allgemeine said: “the Maltese artist created an unparalleled sensitising atmosphere... Spiteri demonstrated an extraordinary talent for questioning the possibilities of the objects surrounding him and converting the insights gained into sounds. His performance demonstrated a singular, aesthetic fascination.”
Tickets for Quintessence are available from St James Cavalier by calling on 2122 3200 or online at http://ticketengine.sjcav.org/?eventname=Quintessence
