Repeat offender back in court weeks after bail over another break-in
Court urges treatment for Abigail Bugeja's drug addiction
A woman, who has a serious drug addiction, has landed back in the dock in less than a month after she allegedly broke into a St Julian’s apartment and stole gym mats and other items.
Abigail Bugeja, 38, was further accused of breaching two sets of bail conditions -one granted on June 6 and another one granted on July 23.
The latest bail was granted during her arraignment when she was charged after allegedly breaking into the same Gżira apartment twice in the span of four days stealing some €20,000 worth of items.
The woman denied the charges.
Police inspector Kelsey Bugeja told the court that Bugeja was recognised from the CCTV footage since she was known to the police. The woman was arrested at her residence on Thursday at 9:30pm.
No request for bail was made at this stage but defence lawyer Nicholas Mifsud requested the court to recommend that the woman is held at the forensic unit and given all the necessary assistance to overcome her drug addiction. The court upheld the request and made the recommendation to the prison authorities.
Magistrate Kevan Azzopardi presided.
Police inspector Nico Zarb and Kelsey Bugeja prosecuted.
Lawyer Nicholas Mifsud appeared for the accused.
