Repeat offender charged with string of thefts from St Julian's apartments
Russia-born Slovenian man denies seven break-ins over three months
A 43-year old man on Thursday pleaded not guilty to a string of thefts from two apartment blocks in St Julian's.
Kristijan Zekic also known was Nyazov Adhamjon, who said he was born in Russia but has a Slovenian passport, was charged with stealing money and other objects from a flat on April 15.
He was also accused of breaking into an apartment on June 8 from where he stole watches and electronics, and burglaring another property on June 21 where he stole money and other objects.
Zekic is also facing aggravated theft charges in connection with another burglary on July 5 where he allegedly stole electronics and other objects.
He is further accused of aggravated theft in connection with three more burglaries, one on July 15 and two on July 19 where he allegedly stole money and electronics.
He is also charged with committing wilful damage to the property and breaching four sets of bail conditions.
He pleaded not guilty.
Police inspector Christina Delia told the court that officers had been investigating a string of break-ins into apartments situated in two particular blocks on Triq Gorg Borg Olivier in St Julian's starting in April.
The suspect was identified and arrested on August 12 at the Naxxar police station when he went to sign the bail book.
No request for bail was made at this stage and he was remanded in custody.
Magistrate Ann Marie Thake presided.
