Once again we come across a situation where our government is in crisis but whatever happens, Lawrence Gonzi never opts to try it the Labour way. Furthermore, proposals made by Labour have been totally ignored and even derided. I cannot understand how, in such circumstances, someone with absolutely no options can act in such a manner.

But, then again, if one stopped to think about of this government's ruthless spending tactics one would not be surprised to find that, without the Lm27 million netted from the surcharge, Dr Gonzi might find it very hard to keep smiling. Obviously, they do not keep in mind the families that are paying this over-charged levy, the newly-weds who have to deal with so much, including the higher monthly interest on loans, or the single parents who have to manage on social services, as well as employees who are daily losing their jobs, also due to other government mistakes.

Alfred Sant did not have to do much thinking to realise that if only the government were more careful with what they're spending, they would have been able to reduce the surcharge by half.

But we all remember the happenings in Mosta square, where street lights were being installed on the night of the council election or the beautiful "state-of-the-art" flooded road, not to mention other mishaps in such roads.

We are tired of hearing the same excuses as these do not happen once in a while but repeatedly, indicating that these mistakes are no mistakes at all.
