I state without prejudice in reply to the Medical Council memorandum (May 29):
That I am the only general practitioner who has sat on the Medical Council by virtue of my election thereon by the whole medical profession since 1969;
That, as was reported, I met Dr Leonard Harvey, team member of TAIEX (Technical Assistance Information Exchange), an agency of the European Union, as a member of the Medical Council in the same way other members of the same council met Dr Harvey;
That whatever I told Dr Harvey in our brief encounter transpires and results from the minutes of the Medical Council and the relevant government department files;
That these minutes and government department files as well as the proceedings of the Medical Council, are, of their very nature, confidential and, therefore, at this stage I am not free to elaborate, even if others, albeit the majority in the Medical Council, for their own reasons, think and act otherwise;
If and when I am satisfied that I am duly released from this duty of confidentiality, I reserve the right to publish all the relevant facts and comment thereon.
