Residential promise-of-sale agreements up by over 23% in March

Final deeds of sale went up by 9.2% over March 2026

The number of promise-of-sale agreements for residential property signed in March 2026 increased by over 23% over the same month last year, while final deeds of sale went up by 9.2%.

According to national data published on Monday, the number of final deeds of sale and promise of sale agreements signed last month amounted to 1,130 and 1,375, respectively. 

The National Statistics Office said in a statement that it was basing its data on the date of registration with the tax authority.

Final deeds of sale

The value of final deeds of sale relating to residential property totalled €340 million - representing an increase of 10.7 per cent when compared to the corresponding value recorded in March 2025.

Over nine out of every 10 of these deeds involved individual buyers (households), with companies accounting for all remaining deeds. 

The highest numbers of final deeds of sale were recorded in St Paul's Bay (108), Birkirkara (53) and Mosta (51). 

During the month under review, 1,219 properties were transacted in the final deeds of sale. Apartments (442) and garages (284) accounted for the largest shares, at 36.3 per cent and 23.3 per cent, respectively.

Promise of sale agreements

During the same month, the value of promises-of-sale totalled €506.1 million, representing an increase of 33.5 per cent when compared to March 2025.

Individual potential buyers (households) accounted for 1,228 (or 89.3 per cent) of these agreements, while the rest mainly involved companies.

The highest numbers of promise of sale agreements were recorded in St Paul's Bay (98), Birkirkara (80) and Qormi (63).
