A kilometre of rubble walls are to be built near the Mgarr ix-Xini tower in Gozo and the nearby bay, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said on a recent vist to the restoration works being carried out at the tower.
After nine months, the works, which will soon be finished, are showing results.
The rubble walls are to be constructed by the end of the year.
The minister said the restoration of the tower, built in 1661, was a crucial part of preserving the cultural and historic heritage of the country.
The tower had been damaged structurally by vandals in the '70s and '80s, and had reached the point of collapse.
Restoration of the tower and rehabilitation of its surroundings are being carried out following an agreement between the ministry and the heritage organisation Wirt Ghawdex.
