From snapshots of war to the world of showbiz, Reuters released a slideshow of its Pictures of the Year for 2015.

Highlights of Reuters' Pictures of the Year for 2015 include a photograph taken in September of a Syrian refugee kissing his daughter as he walks through a rainstorm towards Greece's border with Macedonia. Hundreds of thousands of people have streamed into Europe this year, mostly through Greece. Balkan states began blocking passage last month to all but Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans, who are considered as refugees because they are fleeing war zones.

Another photograph from November shows French fire brigade members aiding an injured individual near the Bataclan concert hall following fatal shootings in Paris, France. The Bataclan shootings were part of a co-ordinated attack around Paris that killed 130 people. Islamic State, the militant group that now controls large parts of Syria and Iraq, claimed responsibility.

In entertainment, one image shows reality TV star Kim Kardashian attempting to calm her daughter, North, while sitting next to Sean Combs, Jay-Z, Beyonce and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour as they watch a presentation of Kanye West's Fall/Winter 2015 partnership with Adidas at New York Fashion Week in February.

Another shows pop diva Madonna tumbling off the stage while performing at the Brit Awards in London after a "wardrobe malfunction", when she became tangled in a swirling cape.
