Rick Lewis to speak at philosophy lecture
Lewis is editor of Philosophy Now, a leading international magazine for accessible philosophical discussion
The Philosophy Sharing Foundation will host its 12th Annual Philosophy Lecture on Friday at 6.30pm at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana. The lecture will be delivered by Rick Lewis, editor of Philosophy Now, widely regarded as a leading international magazine for accessible philosophical discussion.
Lewis’s lecture will explore how philosophical problems often arise from confusion between differing human perspectives. He will address the question: ‘Do we have a point of view, or are we each a point of view?’
The lecture follows the publication of SHARE Magazine No. 22, released on February 6 and dedicated to social philosophy. The issue features 14 articles by Maltese and international contributors exploring coexistence; the entanglement between care and ethics; the concept of dwelling; the evolution of human consciousness; the social dimension of art; challenges facing social work; mobility and new forms of entrapment; the importance of sustaining peace; the paradox that an abundance of information has not necessarily strengthened deliberative democracy; AI’s impact on work and future forms of criticism; heritable genome editing and how it may reshape what it means to be human; and whether beings can act against social norms.
The issue also includes a review of Post-Truth by Lee McIntyre, a poem on genetic engineering, and an interview with the guest speaker, Rick Lewis.
Bookings for the lecture and purchases of the magazine are available through the Philosophy Sharing Foundation’s website at www.philosophysharing.org.
Established in May 2012 as a voluntary organisation registered in Malta, the Philosophy Sharing Foundation remains committed to promoting philosophical activity and contributing positively to society by making philosophical knowledge more widely accessible. The foundation believes that encouraging philosophical education helps develop independent thinking and supports more democratic, inclusive, tolerant, peaceful and civilised societies.
