The General Workers' Union is in the coming days expected to inform officials of Public Services International about the recent action taken by the union at Maltapost and the suspension of workers that followed.
Public Services International is a trade union federation of over 500 public sector unions in over 140 countries.
The union said yesterday the secretary of its public sector section, Josephine Attard Sultana, has already informed PSI general secretary Hans Engelbert as well as the European Federation of Public Service Unions on how unions' right to strike was being shackled by the government and employers.
In mid-March, the GWU ordered partial action at Maltapost after the management "ignored" the shortcomings that had been pointed out by the union. On that occasion, the management suspended 28 counter administrators who obeyed the union directive and flouted workers' right to strike, the GWU said.
