The top four players in the men's and women's rankings, along with the two best-placed juniors in the Malta Squash list, will be reporting for national squad training early next year.
At present, Johanna Rizzo and Ivan Balzan are leading their respective categories. The final squad selection will be made after the next ranking tournament on January 8.
Rizzo is provisionally seeded ahead of Liz Said, Sue Aquilina and Roberta Pace Grima. Balzan is enjoying the top placing in the men's rankings ahead of Mark Gatt, Peter Wirth and Adrian Pace.
Mark Seychell and John Cuschieri are ahead in the U-16 category and the top-ranked U-13 juniors at present are Richard Puglisevich and Ryan Rizzo.
Malta Squash will be laying more focus on junior players in 2005 with the continuation of a development programme which got underway in September.
Meanwhile, the organisation announced they will also have a brand new portable 'mini-squash' court available by the end of January.
This should help the organisers to introduce squash to as many beginners as possible.
