Ivan Rizzo and Marius Gatt have secured a place in the team that will represent Malta in the European Championships, to be staged here next February, after reaching the final of a qualification tournament held recently.

Played at the Pandora Hall, Zejtun, the final went Rizzo's way after he won eight frames to Gatt's four.

Malta will field two teams of six players each in the European Championships. The other members of the Maltese selection are: Clayton Attard, Clint Azzopardi, Antoine Cuschieri, Mario Cutajar, Chris Mills, Stephen Mangion, Adrian Camilleri, Ray Caruana, Miguel Falzon and Mario Brincat.

In the youth category, Matthias Mallia had the better of Wedley Zammit 6-4 in the final. These two youngsters, who both play for Downtown Bar, complete the Malta youth team for the Euro Championships. The other four members are Lothar Mallia, Darren Schembri, Maverick Zammit and Malcolm Azzopardi.
