There was an average of one road fatality every month last year, official figures show.
The National Statistics Office said 11 of the 1,700 who sustained injuries died. Nearly three fourths of casualties were in or hit by passenger cars and 18.6 per cent involved motorcycles.
Traffic accidents peaked on Thursdays but the highest casualties were on Saturdays, the figures showed.
The number of accidents grew by seven per cent in 2015 when compared to 2014, up to 15,500.
The NSO said the highest number of accidents - 37.5 per cent of the total - occurred in the northern harbour.
The highest number of traffic accidents last year (1,187 cases, or 7.7 per cent of the total) happened in Birkirkara. Qormi and Marsa were next, with 776 and 749 accidents respectively.
